This project involves the preliminary engineering and detailed design plans for the SR161 corridor between I-71 and Cleveland Avenue. This second phase will provide Improvements to SR161 from Ambleside Dr. to Maple Canyon Avenue. Improvements include installation of lighting and shared use paths along the north and south side of SR 161. Side streets including Beechcroft Rd and Tamarack/Sharon Woods Blvd will be improved north and south of SR 161. These improvements will include the addition of pedestrian and bike facilities, new traffic signals, pavement widening and resurfacing, raised medians on the side streets and the installation of mini-roundabouts. These Vision Zero safety improvements are designed to slow driver speeds, increase visibility of people walking and biking and separate these vulnerable road users from vehicle traffic.

This project is located on the Vision Zero Columbus High Injury Network due to the number of serious or fatal crashes, and/or crashes involving vulnerable road users like people walking, biking or on a motorcycle.

It is also located in a Vision Zero Communities of Interest area. Residents in Communities of Interest may have fewer choices about how, when and where they travel, putting them at higher risk as they move around. Extra investment in roadway and other transportation safety improvements may be needed to enhance safety.
