Cassady Avenue Shared Use Path - 7th Avenue to Plaza Properties Boulevard
This project will install a new shared use path (SUP) along the west side of Cassady Avenue from 7th Avenue to Plaza Properties Boulevard. New sidewalk will be installed along the east side of Cassady from 7th Avenue to Airport Drive to fill gaps and provide more than one mile of continuous sidewalk. In addition to the pedestrian and bicycle facilities, the project will install curb ramps and drive aprons. The bridge across I-670 will be reconfigured to accommodate the SUP, sidewalk, lighting, and a barrier. These Vision Zero Columbus safety improvements are designed to slow driver speeds, increase visibility of people walking and biking and separate these vulnerable road users from vehicle traffic.
This project is located in a Vision Zero Communities of Interest area. Residents in Communities of Interest may have fewer choices about how, when and where they travel, putting them at higher risk as they move around. Extra investment in roadway and other transportation safety improvements may be needed to enhance safety.

The public comment period for this project will be open for 15 days and will close Nov. 17, 2026.
The City of Columbus in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation is seeking comments on the proposed improvements along Cassady Avenue between 7th Avenue and Demonye Road. The proposed shared use path and sidewalk will connect to existing pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, including the Alum Creek Trail.
The proposed impacts to the Alum Creek Trail are as follows:
- Permanent ROW: Approximately 20 ft by 15 ft of the existing trail easement will be needed for the proposed path connection.
- Trail improvements: The existing trail crossing at Cassady Avenue and 10th Avenue will be rebuilt to tie into the proposed grading and shared-use path along the west side of Cassady Avenue.
- Temporary construction impacts: The connector trail is not anticipated to require an extended closure. A temporary runaround can be provided to maintain pedestrian access while the connection is constructed. Depending on construction methods, the trail may need to be temporarily narrowed, and a brief closure of a few hours may be necessary to construct and remove the temporary runaround.
- Detour: No extended detour is anticipated because pedestrian access will be maintained through a temporary relocation/runaround.
To minimize impacts to the Alum Creek Trail:
- Access to the Alum Creek Trail shall be maintained at all times during construction
- Temporary construction fencing shall be installed along proposed construction limits prior to the start of construction activities to protect the property and the public
- Appropriate signage shall be installed to alert users of the Alum Creek Trail construction activities, access restrictions, or temporary closures
- The contractor shall be required to closely coordinate the construction schedule with ODOT and the City of Columbus prior to the start of construction activities.
The City of Columbus invites the public to comment on the proposed project, including its effects on the Alum Creek Trail and any potential social, economic, or environmental impacts. Environmental considerations include, but are not limited to, historic, archaeological, and architectural resources; ecological resources; floodplains; hazardous materials; and any other project-related concerns.
