This is the second phase of the E Broad St rehabilitation project to reconstruct the corridor with new through and turn lanes, and to resurface the roadway from Outerbelt St to Reynoldsburg-New Albany Rd. This phase will make similar Phase 1 improvements currently in construction from I-270 to Outerbelt St for safer traffic flow and to reduce crashes. Other planned improvements will install upgraded traffic signals, signal interconnect conduit, street lighting, street trees and drainage and erosion control. Sidewalk will be constructed along one side of the corridor and a shared-use path along the opposite side for safe and connected walking and biking.

The Phase 2 improvements will also connect to recently constructed safety improvements at the high-crash Reynoldsburg-New Albany Rd intersection. Installation of upgraded traffic signals with backplates, street lights and pedestrian pedestals to activate the “Walk” symbol for the crosswalks, plus installation of temporary materials to restrict turns across multiple lanes of traffic, aim to increase safety and decrease crashes.

The E Broad St rehabilitation project is on the Vision Zero Columbus High Injury Network due to the number of serious or fatal crashes, and/or crashes involving vulnerable road users like people walking, biking or on a motorcycle.
