Update and Traffic Impacts
Effective July 13, 2026, for approximately two months, traffic moving eastbound and westbound on E. 5th Ave. at Cassady Ave. is restricted to one through lane as the City of Columbus project progresses to reconstruct this intersection and Cassady Ave. from Delmar Dr. to 7th Ave.
Cassady at Delmar Dr. south of the railroad tracks to E. 5th Ave. remains restricted to one-way northbound traffic, and to one-way southbound traffic from just north of E. 7th Ave. to E. 5th Ave. for phase 1 construction. Drivers should continue to follow posted detour signs.
- Eastbound 5th Ave traffic that wants to travel north on Cassady will be detoured to Stelzer Rd. to 17th Ave., and then to Johnstown Rd. back to Cassady.
- Eastbound 5th Ave traffic that wants to travel south on Cassady will be detoured to Stelzer Rd./James Rd. to E. Broad St. back to Cassady.
- Westbound 5th Ave. traffic that wants to travel north on Cassady will be detoured to Nelson Rd./US 62 to Airport Dr. back to Cassady.
- Westbound 5th Ave. traffic that wants to travel south on Cassady will be detoured to Nelson Rd./US 62 to E. Broad St. back to Cassady.
This traffic pattern is expected to shift later in 2026 when crews begin reconstruction of the east side of Cassady Ave.
In addition, the railroad crossing at Delmar Dr. will be closed for approximately 30 days this fall while the railroad completes project-related upgrades.
Updates regarding the timing of these traffic changes will be communicated to the community beforehand and on this Cassady Ave. project page. Use the Subscribe button to receive updates.
Relocation of multiple private utilities along Cassady has caused some roadwork construction delays. The project is on track to complete all improvements by summer 2027. Cassady Ave. is anticipated to be open to two-way traffic south of E. 5th Ave. by next spring.
