Cassady Avenue improvements consist of the full reconstruction of the roadway to a 3-lane, curb and gutter section with additional turn lanes at the intersection with E. 5th Avenue. Sidewalk will be placed along the east side and a shared use path along the west side. Additional improvements include traffic signal replacement, street lighting, street trees where feasible, and storm sewer. Electric distribution and water line systems are anticipated to be impacted. The 12" water line between Avalon Place and E. 5th Avenue will be replaced with a new 12" line.

E. 5th Avenue improvements consist of roadway reconstruction with additional turn lanes at the intersection with Cassady Avenue. The sidewalk will be replaced along both sides and lighting and utility systems replaced/relocated as necessary. Additional improvements include street lighting, street trees where feasible, and storm sewer. Electric distribution and water line systems are anticipated to be impacted. The water services from the existing 2" water line between N. Dawson Avenue and Northview Avenue will be transferred to the existing 12" water line and the 2" line abandoned.

    Starting Tuesday morning, Sept. 8, Cassady Ave will be closed to all traffic from E. 5th Ave to E. 7th Ave for approximately 3 weeks for construction on this section of the roadway. This temporary closure is critical to making substantial progress here.

    The existing detour on Cassady at Delmar Dr south of the railroad tracks to E 5th Ave remains restricted to one-way northbound traffic as work progresses on the full reconstruction of Cassady. Drivers should continue to follow posted detour signs.

    Relocation of private utilities necessary for the Cassady have been achieved and roadwork has returned to critical progress. The Department of Public Service and our project contractor may expand construction crews to 6 days a week to work toward opening the roadway to two-way traffic as soon as safely possible. The project team appreciates the community’s patience. Access to Cassady Ave businesses currently remains open.
