This is the first phase of the E Broad St rehabilitation project to reconstruct the corridor with new through and turn lanes for safer traffic flow and to reduce crashes, and to resurface the roadway from the east side of the I-270 interchange to the intersection of E. Broad Street and Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road. Sidewalk will be constructed along one side of the corridor and a shared-use path along the opposite side for safe and connected walking and biking. Other planned improvements will include upgraded traffic signals with backplates, street lights and pedestrian pedestals to activate the “Walk” symbol for the crosswalks. Signal interconnect conduit, street lighting and street trees will also be installed. These Vision Zero safety improvements are designed to slow driver speeds, better manage traffic flow, increase visibility of people walking and biking and separate these vulnerable road users from vehicle traffic. Stormwater drainage improvements will be made where necessary.

The E Broad St rehabilitation project is on the Vision Zero Columbus High Injury Network due to the number of serious or fatal crashes, and/or crashes involving vulnerable road users like people walking, biking or on a motorcycle.
