This project will rehabilitate the Front Street and Nationwide Boulevard roadway bridges that cross over the Norfolk Southern Railroad. The Front Street Bridge is located south of W. Nationwide Blvd., and the Nationwide Boulevard Bridge is located between N. High St. and N. Front St.

The Front Street Bridge construction involves a major superstructure replacement with a new bridge deck, including the roadway and sidewalk. The Nationwide Boulevard Bridge rehabilitation will include replacing expansion seals and reconstructing sidewalks.

These bridges were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s. This project’s upgrade and maintenance will extend the life of each structure to support safe vehicle and pedestrian travel for access to Downtown, the Arena District and nearby neighborhoods and attractions.

Construction on Phase 1 is expected to begin in April. Front St. traffic will be maintained one lane in each direction from Nationwide Blvd. to Hickory St., with access open to the Nationwide Parking Garage, 285 N. Front St. Watch for lane restrictions and signage in the construction zone. This phase and traffic pattern is expected to be in place until mid-summer 2026.

During Phase 2, Front St. will be closed from Nationwide Blvd. to Hickory St. with no access to the parking garage north entrance. Access will be maintained to the garage’s south entrance. A travel lane across the bridge will be made available for special events traffic. Phase 2 is anticipated to complete remaining construction by late 2026.

The project team will work to minimize impacts as much as possible to area businesses, employers, residents and event venues while keeping construction on schedule. Any changes to the traffic pattern and parking garage access will be communicated as needed.
