Indianola Resurfacing Project Updates

Indianola Avenue resurfacing and safety improvements construction will begin in fall 2025 and be completed in spring 2026. The city and the Ohio Department of Transportation have partnered on this urban paving project, and the city is investing in additional improvements for safe walking and biking along the corridor. A northbound buffered bike lane will be added between Hudson Street and Arcadia Avenue, connecting to an existing bike lane on the west side of Hudson. An existing bike route on Arcadia will connect the Indianola bike lanes to the Summit Street cycle track. Bike lanes will continue north of Arcadia to Oakland Park Avenue.

Weber Road to Midgard Road Reconfiguration

In response to community feedback, the roadway between Weber Road and Midgard Road will be reconfigured to accommodate additional onstreet parking spaces. The two-way left-turn lane will be removed in this section to allow for more parking spaces to serve local businesses. Bicycle parking will be provided as part of a sidewalk bump-out on the west side at Milford Avenue that will shorten the distance for pedestrians crossing Indianola.

On-Street Parking

With the new configuration, 48 on-street parking spaces will be available to patrons, residents and visitors between Weber and Midgard. ADA accessibility, loading zone and bike parking space will also be designated within this business district. All on-street parking spaces on Indianola in this district will be available all day, every day without peak-time restrictions. Bus stop relocation in the business district area is being coordinated with COTA.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements

Adding bike lanes on Indianola will fill a significant cap and provide more than 7 miles of continuous bikeway from Downtown to Morse Road. Reducing the number of travel lanes and providing bike lanes will support Vision Zero Columbus principles to prioritize safety for all roadway users and slow vehicle speeds. Sidewalks between Weber and Midgard will be improved, primarily on the east side of Indianola, and other sidewalk repairs will be improved as needed on the west side north of Milford. High visibility crosswalks will be installed at Arcadia Ave, Cliffside Dr, Crestview Rd, Milford Ave and Walhalla Rd. Two sidewalk bump-outs will be added at Milford Ave (shown in the rendering below) and on the west side of Indianola at Crestview Rd and at Walhalla Rd.
